One of Duncan’s favourite walks early in the morning was a path around the Derwent Reservoir which sits on the border between County Durham and Northumberland. A peaceful place, sat in a quiet valley, where the weather can change very quickly. In the stillness of the early hours, deer could be seen among the trees and a large variety of birds heard calling all around the reservoir.
This is Duncan’s first time painting in oil on canvas as opposed to acrylic paints and shows an area of pathway looking over to the hillside across the reservoir. On reasonably calm days, Red Grouse can be heard on the grouse moors over the other side of the water.
